Microsoft is expanding its Copilot AI to gaming with a new chatbot for Xbox players that will help them in games and ‘‘improve skills’. This feature will be available to Xbox Insiders earlier than others for testing and feedback. The reveal was done by Xbox Corporate Vice President of Gaming AI, Fatima Kardar during the most recent Xbox Podcast.

“Copilot for Gaming is built on three principles: capability, adaptability, and personalization. It is designed to assist players in various ways, from personalized game recommendations and seamless game setup to helpful coaching and maintaining connections with friends,” Microsoft said. The basic idea is to have solo players don’t feel alone or left out.

Copilot for gaming is very ambitious
A simple way to explain what Copilot will do is to pull up a quick guide for things players are stuck at. This won’t happen by itself as players will have to ask the AI how to do it. However, Microsoft claims this won’t simply be a chatbot answering people’s queries.
The gameplay concept revealed during the podcast had the AI analyze Overwatch 2 characters and give team composition and which character to play. The AI also analyzed player’s records to let them know which one they could use. Although this was simply a concept and not integrated into the game, it reveals how ambitious the project is in scale which makes everyone doubt.
A few days back, a leaked clip of Sony’s AI NPC initiative was leaked online. While the company took it down quickly, the video is still circulating. What Xbox is doing also looks very similar yet different in implementation. For starters, there’s no mention of the AI having a physical appearance but both aim to help players on their respective consoles.
