Indian gaming sector gets clarity on RMG and video games
The Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), Sanjay Jaju, recently addressed the 16th edition of the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC). Here, the Indian gaming Industry finally received clarity on the long awaited distinction between Real Money Gaming (RMG) and Video Games.
In the announcement, it was revealed that the government has decided to the RMG industry from the video gaming sector. This comes as a huge step towards regulation of the gaming industry, as there will now be clear policies for the RMG and video games sector.
All of this started after several industry leaders wrote asking for a distinction between the two. The content aspects are handled by the MIB and the regulatory aspects are all handled by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) as noted by moneycontrol.
Addressing the matter, Jaju said, “What you see here are video games which are played by us and are completely legal. Video game development, or mobile game development, is a very important element of the media and entertainment landscape of our country. It has a huge economic potential and employment potential.”
He further pressed on the fact that India is already having a rich heritage which can be utilized by the game developers. This will also create employment opportunities for talented people in the country. The push towards the gaming industry will carry the AVGC sector.

The boost to AVGC sector
The Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) sector has been one of the primary focus. All of this comes under 'Make in India' initiative allowing creation of high qualify video games and animation and other this inside the country for the world. This also aim to help increase employment opportunities.
A great example in the recent hit game Black Myth: Wukong. While matching the scope this early on will be much harder, starting with smaller games then going big will go a long way.
