Andrew Wilson

CEO of Electronic Arts (EA), Andrew Wilson, is being considered as a replacement for Disney’s Bob Iger. As per a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Disney is scouting a successor and people from outside the company are also an option. Bob Iger is expected to step down from his position in 2026.

Sources familiar with the matter talked to the WSJ, revealing that EA’s CEO is one of the external candidates. Alongside Wilson, there are reportedly two more external candidates. Internal candidates who are currently on the list include Disney Entertainment co-chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro.

A few years back, Bob Chapek, during his time as Disney CEO, was also reportedly in talk with Wilson for a potential acquisition of Electronic Arts. This, however, did not lead anywhere, but the company is quite interested in the video game sector, with different games and collabs.

Disney has also partnered with EA on several occasions with the Star Wars franchise. The Star Wars Jedi and Battlefront series are quite beloved. There are other entries in the mix which also did pretty well.

An impressive portfolio for Wilson

Wilson was appointed as the CEO back in 2013 and despite various ups and downs, the company seems to be doing fine. With Activision now under Microsoft and Ubisoft under fire, EA seem to be the most reasonable choice if Disney plan on going shopping or at least the CEO behind it.

Even before he was appointed as the CEO, Wilson worked as executive vice president of EA Sports and Origin. Wilson also served as vice president and executive producer of all EA Sports FIFA games, as per the company profile.

As of now, it is unknown who will get the chance as it is still too early, former CEO of Morgan Stanley, James Gorman, who is set to take his role of board chairman at Disney called Wilson ‘a rare combination of extraordinarily good creative instincts with great business judgment.’
