The PlayStation 5 Pro launched a few days back globally and people were quick to show off their devices across social media. Sadly, PS5 fans across India were quiet dissapointed as the console did not launch in the country. People were surprised, after all, there are physical showrooms for PlayStation in India and a decent audience.

Those accessing the purchase page on the official website are met with a 404 error. Clearing the air about the launch, Sony has now come forward to reveal why players cannot get a PS5 Pro in India. As per the official statement, the unavailability is due to Wi-Fi 7 which is one of the highlights of the console but isn’t allowed in the country.

“PS5 Pro will not be available in some countries (which presently includes India) where 6GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) has not yet been allowed,” the official statement said. As of now, it is unclear when will India approve Wi-Fi 7, so for now, fans can say goodbye to their dream of getting a PS5 Pro.

Unofficial channels promising PS5 Pro available at hefty prices

The PS5 Pro isn’t available officially in India, but that does not mean it will not be available. Several grey market vendors are providing PS5 Pro, but the asking price is much higher than the MRP. The base price for PS5 Pro is $700 which translates to Rs 59,000. However, the grey market vendors/scalpers are asking as high as Rs 1 lakh for the console.

Is it a good option to purchase PS5 from these vendors? The short answer is no, and the reason is the bloated price these sellers are asking and no guarantee. There is always a risk that people may get scammed, and they will not have anyone to complain about this as the console isn’t available officially.

Secondly, even if players get the PS5 Pro through this grey market, they cannot ask Sony for a warrant claim or send the device for repair.
