Despite some performance issues, Monster Hunter Wilds is reportedly the best-selling game of 2025 across the US on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. Released back on February 28, the game reached a peak player count of almost 1.4 million players. All this happened when the game wasn’t even a month old making it the most successful game in Monster Hunter franchise.
The stats come from ‘Mat Piscatella’, a well-known gaming industry analyst and Executive Director at Circana shared the statistics for best-selling games till March. The top three games on the list included three of the most anticipated releases. These were Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Civilization 7.

“Monster Hunter: Wilds was the best-selling video game of February, instantly becoming the best-selling title of 2025 thus far. Launch month dollar sales of Monster Hunter: Wilds more than doubled the total Monster Hunter: Rise achieved during its March 2021 debut,” Piscatella wrote.

Monster Hunter Wilds making records for Capcom
What’s impressive is that Monster Hunter Wilds managed to reach the top in such a short amount of time. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II also managed to beat its previous installment, but couldn’t remain on top. However, the signs were already there during the open beta test.
Monster Hunter Wilds saw almost half a million players join the hunt during the open beta on Steam last year. It was a clear indication of how popular the game was going to be. There were some concerns about performance, but it seems that the gamers did not care much. Steam also reportedly accounted for more than half of all sales across the US.
With Capcom reporting 8 million copies sold in just three days, the report is also hard to ignore. Surely Japan also contributed a lot considering there is a large player base for the Monster Hunter franchise. Capcom also acknowledged the growing popularity of PC gaming which also seems to be true.
