Following the reveal of the invite slot at PMGC 2024, the Coach for Team XSpark, Rahul “Osmium” Sharma addressed the speculations. Talking to the fans, Osmium talked about how he previously told everyone that the spot would go to some other team, but people were not convenient after watching the performance of Team XSpark at the BGMI tournament.

Fans were ultimately left disappointed after the invited team was revealed. While members from Team Spark like ScoutOP and Sarang already said that the possibility is very low, fans did not want to lose hope and see at least one team from India compete internationally among other top teams across the globe.

The slot ultimately went to IHC Esports, who were crowned PMGC 2023 champions, however, there was a good reason for fans to believe in Team XSpark. Usually, if a champion is to be invited, it is generally announced a lot earlier which made them believe India might finally be getting a slot at PMGC 2024.

Why BGMI teams are not getting international slots?

Mobile esports is possibly one of the strongest aspects of the Indian gaming community, despite that, players are not getting international representation. Competing internationally will allow more motivation for players, who will also gain much more experience and knowledge.

Fans asked Osmium if esports organisations can ask Krafton, the developers of BGMI and PUBG Mobile, to include India, to which he replied, “There might be something going on. Kuch to reason hai why Indian teams are not getting slots”. As per Osmium, Krafton is not denying the slot for fun and there might be some bigger reason why it’s not happening.

Many believe that since BGMI and PUBG Mobile are considered different games, it may be causing issues. However, China also has a different version of PUBG Mobile called ‘Game for Peace’, despite that, there are teams that compete at international events so it is very much possible for India too.
