Game Science CEO talks about Black Myth: Wukong Xbox release delay

Despite a highly successful release, Black Myth: Wukong was marred with controversies across the board. From optimization issues to the backlash of not releasing the game on Xbox due to a secret exclusivity deal with PlayStation, there were a lot of things. However, in a recent post, the CEO of developing studio made one thing clear.

Writing about the 2024 Steam Awards, Yocar-Feng ji told that the reason behind a delay for Xbox release was due to the optimization issues on the Xbox Series S. This matches the early speculations pointing towards the Series S consoles.

“Although there were no big surprises, I still felt a little emotional after getting all of them. Everyone's fighting power is so terrifying, but the only thing missing is the XBOX robe... It seems a bit wrong (but that's 10G shared memory, it's really impossible to get it without several years of optimization experience),” Feng Ji wrote.

Xbox cannot stop taking Ls

The Series S was underwhelming in performance and seem to be the biggest issue for the current gen Xbox. Not everything, however, was Xbox’s fault, as games optimizations are usually sacrificed to achieve better visuals which does not synergize with already weak Series S. Even PC ports are suffering as games now require more GPU memory with tradition 8 GB slowing being insufficient.

This might also explain why Microsoft is prepping to go multiplatform with future releases. This does not mean that the company has abandoned all hopes for the console, but rather shifting their focus more across other things.

There were also claims that PlayStation might have an exclusive contract with game Science for Black Myth: Wukong on the PS5. However, since the reasoning behind the Xbox delay is coming from the CEO himself, there is currently nothing to argue about.
