New co-op gameplay for Split Fiction revealed Photograph: (Hazelight Studios)
First revealed during the 2024 Game Awards, Split Fiction is the next game by Hazelight Studios. The initial announcement game is a new yet familiar feeling similar to their previous game ‘It Takes Two’ which won Game of The Year back in 2021. Now fans have received a brand new gameplay trailer as a sneak peek ahead of the release.
The founder of the studio, Josef Fares, once again took the stage to showcase the various co-op stages. Unlike the previous game with a similar tone, Split Fiction looks much different both in terms of mechanics and visuals. One stage will take players to a fantasy world while another will throw the duo into a sci-fi cyberpunk world.
What We Know About Split Fiction
The basic plot behind Split Fiction isn’t some big secret. Fares gave a very good explanation during the initial announcement last year and the trailers themselves give a lot of information on what players can expect in Hazelight Studios’ upcoming co-op adventure.
Apart from the main story, there are also many side stories to explore across various new biomes. Overall, Split Fiction is looking like another Game of The Year contender to take back the crown of the most-awarded platformer game from Astro Bot.

Split Fiction FAQ
Release date and platform?
Good things take time, but thankfully, players don’t have to wait much longer. Hazelight Studios has kept the game in the oven for a long time and Split Fiction is all set to release on March 6, 2025, across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is published by Electronic Arts.
Can you play Split Fiction solo?
Split Fiction is supposed to be a complete co-op experience, meaning players will need a friend to play along similar to It Takes Two. This is because there are tasks in every step that cannot be done alone unless the player can play using two separate controllers for each character.
