Tim Seifert displayed some audacious hitting to give Saint Lucia Kings a commanding victory in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. The keeper-batter smocked Antigua and Barbuda Falcons pacer Mohammad Amir for 24 runs to steer his side to a seven-wicket win at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Tuesday (September 3).

Chasing a target of 143 runs, captain Faf du Plessis and his opening partner Johnson Charles provided a brilliant start to the Kings' innings. Seifert came to the crease in the 15th over when his team was comfortably placed at 116-3. With five overs remaining, the New Zealand cricketer had only to apply the finishing touches. However, he decided to do it in some style.

In the 17th over, Falcons skipper Chris Green handed the ball to Amir, who had conceded 21 runs in his previous three overs. Seifert welcomed the Pakistan veteran with three consecutive boundaries (two sixes and a four) and played down his confidence. The left-arm pacer then conceded a couple of singles before the Kiwi batsman amassed a maximum in the final delivery to accumulate 24 runs and seal the match.

Amir thus finished with figures of 0-45 in his four overs. The 32-year-old has had a below-par outing in the tournament so far. He has taken only one wicket from four matches at an economy rate of 10.25.

Noor Ahmed wreaks havoc with 3-fer

Earlier, the Falcons, who were invited to bat first, could only manage 142/7 in 20 overs. The top scorer of the team is opener Justin Greaves who scored 36 runs off 26 balls. Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers for the Kings, picking up three wickets for 18 runs. The Afghanistan spinner was also awarded Player of the Match.

“It's been a pleasure to be playing in the CPL, under different conditions and I'm trying to give my best to the team. I had a good partnership with the rest of the bowlers and I enjoyed it, the atmosphere is good and we're all trying to give our best for the team,” Noor said after the match.
