Pakistan suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series on Sunday (August 25). It was Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win against Pakistan and it will surely hurt the Men in Green as it came in their backyard - the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Former cricketers and fans started analysing the reason behind Pakistan's dismal performance, pointing to the absence of spinners and early innings declaration among other factors. The unity between the Pakistan team members has always been questioned and it came under the spotlight again after a video featuring Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi went viral on social media.
During a team huddle, the Pakistan skipper placed his hands on the shoulders of Shaheen, who was standing next to him. However, the left-arm pacer took Masood’s hand off his shoulder and the internet assumed that all was not well in Pakistan cricket.

The video surfaced online a day after captain Masood had a heated exchange with head coach Jason Gillespie following their defeat. While some attribute the two incidents to the painful defeat, others claim it was underlying tensions within the team.
Pakistan suffers setback in WTC ranking
Pakistan played the first test without any front-line spinners. They dropped Abrar Ahmed and decided to go for an all-pace attack. Interestingly, Bangladesh spinners took seven wickets in the second innings.
Earlier, there was controversy surrounding Masood's decision to declare the first innings when keeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan was nearing his double century. Rizwan was unbeaten on 171 when Pakistan ended their innings at 448-6. Bangladesh, in reply, amassed 565 on the back of Mushfiqur Rahim's 191.
Pakistan slipped to the eighth position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table. The loss was a huge blow to their hopes of making their first-ever finals.
