Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani displayed a remarkable gesture of sportsmanship during the IPL 2025 Auction. It happened when he approached the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) management to thank them after MI successfully acquired England all-rounder Will Jacks for ₹5.25 crore. This surprise move capped an intense bidding battle on Day 2 of the auction, where Jacks emerged as a high-value target.
Jacks, who had a base price of ₹2 crore, saw fierce competition between MI and Punjab Kings (PBKS). The bidding quickly escalated beyond ₹5 crore, with MI securing him at ₹5.25 crore after PBKS pulled out. However, the spotlight shifted to RCB when the auctioneer offered them the opportunity to use their Right to Match (RTM) card. Despite Jacks' stellar performance for them in the 2024 season, RCB opted not to exercise the RTM.
The decision by RCB came as a surprise to many. Jacks was one of their standout players last season, smashing a scintillating century against Gujarat Titans and amassing 230 runs in eight matches at an average of 32.86. Additionally, he contributed with the ball, picking up two wickets. Given his form and potential, many expected RCB to retain him.
Will Jacks be a potential opening partner for Rohit?
Akash Ambani’s gesture of gratitude underscored the mutual respect between the franchises. After RCB’s decision, Ambani was seen walking over to the RCB table to shake hands and express his thanks. This act highlighted the camaraderie that underpins the high-stakes world of IPL auctions.
