Reports: Shubman Gill to book spot as Gujarat Titans captain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

Ahead of the upcoming mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, rumours are surfacing all over the internet that Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to retain Shubman Gill as their captain. Moreover, Rashid Khan will be playing under him. Now, an insider source spoke to ANI about GT's plans ahead of the auction, where Gill will be the first to retain. However, as per earlier reports, Rashid asked GT to make him the first retention and Gill the second. 

"Shubman Gill to lead the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, and Rashid Khan will play under him. Many big teams were eyeing him and were looking to have him in auction. Gill wants to stay loyal to GT and build a strong team," said the sources, as quoted by ANI.

Until the real list comes out, nothing can be said with solid confirmation. The franchises have only two days to release their list, as the deadline is October 31st. After that, they will be directly a part of the mega auction, which is scheduled for November 24 and 25. There have been some interesting reports which suggest that quite a few shocking revelations will happen, and some interesting players will be part of the mega auction. 

Gujarat Titan's journey in the IPL so far

Gujarat Titans came into existence in 2022 with Hardik Pandya as the captain of the team. He was a prolific leader and a brilliant player who led the team towards the tournament victory in the inaugural year. Panyda's positive attitude and correct captaincy helped them beat Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 finals. The same thing almost happened in the next season when GT qualified for the finals yet again. The batters, including Shubman Gill, Rahul Tewatia, and many more, were amazing.

However, this time, they faced the mighty Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the finals, and Pandya had to accept defeat graciously. IPL 2023 finals was an event where Pandya's solid gameplay and his love for his teammates were evident. Things became quite different for GT when Hardik left the throne and moved to Mumbai Indians. While Gill became the King of the Throne, he couldn't handle the team.

Hence, GT ended up in the eighth position of the points table. However, now it's time for redemption for the young captain and an inexperienced side. The owners will be keen on picking up players who add value to the team in the long run.
