Sanju Samson has been the talk of the Indian fans and cricket fraternity for quite some time now. Despite serious talent and technique, the Kerala cricketer has not secured a permanent spot for Team India in any format. He has been a consistent performer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years but has failed to replicate that in the blue jersey.

However, it is important to note that Samson was never a regular presence in the team. Despite making his Twenty20 debut nine years ago, the 29-year-old has played only a handful of matches so far. As many critics have pointed out, whenever Samson gets a chance it's a do-or-die contest for him.

To highlight the above factor, Samson was snubbed from the ODI squad that recently played against Sri Lanka. In his last ODI, the right-hander slammed a match-winning hundred against South Africa. Moreover, he was heavily praised by India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir on multiple occasions in the past.

Although his career has been a rollercoaster ride so far, Samson is optimistic about his future and isn't complaining about not getting enough opportunities. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper recently attended a press conference during the launch of the Kerala Cricket League organised by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). When asked about his omission from the ODI squad for the Lankan series, Samson said (in his native language Malayalam):

"I will just go and play whenever they select. That's it! End of the day, our team is doing well. I am the kind of person who believes in a higher purpose. I just try to take things positively under controllable circumstances and put up the efforts." (translated).

Last 3-4 months have been the best of my career: Samson

Samson admitted that he did not perform as expected in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue whitewashed the series 3-1, but the RR skipper was dismissed for golden ducks in the last two matches. However, he said that the last 3-4 months have been the best of his career as he has fulfilled his dream of being a part of the World Cup team.

"The last 3-4 months have been the best of my career. Being part of the World Cup team is like a dream come true something I desired 3-4 years ago. My wish was to play in my last ODI World Cup. However, it was only after joining the team and winning the Twenty20 World Cup that I realized it wasn't an easy task. But in the last series against Sri Lanka, I didn't perform as expected," Samson added.
