India's defeat against Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI game has raised a lot of questions regarding Gautam Gambhir's approach as a head coach. While talking on Sony Sports Network, former pacer Ashish Nehra spoke about giving newcomers a chance and resting Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the series. As per the pacer, Gambhir didn't have to include them in the ODI series since many games are coming ahead for India.
"He is not a foreign coach who wants to get his equation right with Kohli and Rohit. So it was a good opportunity for him to try out the new players, and Rohit and Kohli could play when the home season begins. I'm not saying it is a wrong approach, but it could have been one of the strategies in this series," said Ashish Nehra while on Sony Sports Network.
This series would have been a good chance to try out new players who might not get chances against teams like Australia and New Zealand. Players like Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad were dropped from the series. Many believed that they deserved a chance to prove themselves, however, Gambhir went for the senior players, which hasn't helped the team in any way.
