India announced its squad for both the T20I series against New Zealand and for the T20 World Cup 2026 on the 20th of December. Given the tournament will take place in India and Sri Lanka, the defending champions did not announce any reserves for the tournament. The 15-member squad has witnessed many changes.
The biggest of them all is Shubman Gill not being just stripped from his vice captaincy, but also getting dropped from the squad. Likewise, Jitesh Sharma, who featured in India's squad since the Asia Cup, was also dropped. Rinku Singh and Ishan Kishan have returned to the T20I side for the tournament.

Axar Patel has been named the vice captain of the side in Gill's absence. Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Rinku are the batters in the team. Likewise, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy are the bowlers in India's squad.

The wicketkeeper batters in the squad are Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, while there are designated All-rounders like Washington Sundar, Axar, and Shivam Dube.
