Pakistan cricket team's 2024 T20 World Cup journey has ended at the group stage. Babar Azam and Co. failed to qualify for the Super Eights after the USA vs Ireland match in Florida was abandoned due to rain. Pakistan are currently third in the Group A points table after losing two out of three matches.

After the washout, the USA and Ireland got one point each. It helped the co-hosts, USA finish their group-stage campaign with five points and qualify for the next round, along with India. On the other hand, Ireland, Canada and Pakistan can pack their bags to return home after their final group match.

Pakistan entered the tournament as one of the favourites. However, they endured one of the worst outings in their T20 World Cup history. Following the Men in Green’s early exit from the tournament, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez took to his social media handle to share a cryptic post, which indirectly took a sly dig at Babar Azam’s team.

"Qurbani Kay Janwar Hazir Hon (Time to present the sacrificial animals)," Hafeez wrote on X (formerly Twitter) with a Pakistan cricket hashtag.

Pakistan’s campaign was hampered by a shock defeat to the USA

Pakistan opened their campaign with a shock defeat to the USA in the Super Over. In their subsequent game against arch-rivals, India, they failed to chase the target of 120 runs, despite being in a comfortable position at one stage. A seven-wicket win over Canada kept them in the hunt, but a win against Ireland in their final group-stage game will not help them match the USA's points.

This is the third time that Pakistan have been eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup. The previous instances were in 2014 and 2016. In every other edition, the Men in Green have managed to enter the semi-finals. Notably, the USA scripted history by reaching the last eight in their debut World Cup appearance.
