Harbhajan Singh, a former off-spinner for India, thinks Shubman Gill will have to wait for his opportunity and is not likely to be included in the playing XI for the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Adelaide, which begins on December 6. Even though captain Rohit Sharma and regular No. 3 Gill were not present for the first Test, India put on a strong show, winning by 295 runs to take a 1-0 series lead.

Dhruv Jurel should be supported by the team management for the pink-ball encounter, Bhaji advised. A finger injury kept Gill out of the Perth Test victory, but he has since recovered and recently hit a fifty in the warm-up match against the Prime Minister's XI. The return of Rohit Sharma presents a selection dilemma for the visitors before the day-night match.

In addition to scoring 77 runs in the second innings, KL Rahul, who replaced him in the first Test, partnered with Yashasvi Jaiswal for 201 runs. Many believe Rahul should continue to open the innings after India won by 295 runs. Rohit has a strong record in the bottom order and began his Test career at number six. Rohit should bat in the top order and not below No. 3, according to Harbhajan's previous statement. At number three, the former spinner thought Rohit should be picked over Gill.

Rohit Sharma will take Devdutt Padikkal place

After securing his position in the top order, Harbhajan Singh did not want to see Gill bat at number five. "I feel Shubman Gill shouldn't be included in the playing XI as Dhruv Jurel deserves another chance. You can't demote Gill to No. 5 from top order. It is a complicated situation for the team management. But it is nice to have selection headaches," he added.

Since Rohit Sharma has started opening for India, batting in 42 of his 64 Test matches and has an outstanding average of 44 with nine hundreds, I don't think Shubman Gill should be in the starting lineup. The 37-year-old will replace Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 0 and 25 in the opening match if he is selected at No. 3 for the second Test. In the two innings that Jurel played in the Perth Test, he scored 11 and 1.
