There was controversy during the second unofficial Test match between India A and Australia A on Friday. The home team had taken a lead of 62 runs in the first innings after bowling out the visiting side for 223. On the second day, KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel were left stunned by a decision that caused a lot of controversy.
Tanush Kotian was bowling to Marcus Harris from round the wicket. Australian batter seemingly edged the ball as KL Rahul took an easy catch in the slips. The umpire though gave the decision as not out as Indian players were left fuming. Tanush Kotian was left holding his head in disappointment.
Former England seamer Stuart Broad took a jibe at the umpiring and wrote, “I’d have walked for that”. Meanwhile, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra showed his dismay and wrote, “How’s this Not-Out????”. It is to be noted that Stuart Broad hadn’t walked during a similar situation during a 2013 Test match in Nottingham.
Team India suffers yet another batting collapse
Australia A were bowled out for 223 in their first innings with an overall lead of 62. Abhimanyu Eeswaran and KL Rahul saw out 8 overs before Nathan McAndrew dismissed Eeswaran for 17. Sai Sudharsan was the next to go when he was caught by Bancroft in the slips off Webster for 3.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul then fell in a space of three balls to leave India A reeling at 44/4. Devdutt Padikkal was caught by Sam Konstas off Webster for 1 as India had lost half their side still trailing by 6 runs. When stumps were drawn Dhruv Jurel was not out on 19 with Nitish Kumar Reddy on 9. The visitors have a slender of 11 runs with just Tanush Kotian left in the hut as the last recognized batter.
Earlier in the day Australia A saw Marcus Harris lead the batting charts with 74 off 138 balls. The left-handed batter hit five boundaries in his knock before falling to Prasidh Krishna. The 28-year-old snapped 4/50 from his 16 overs with Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed picking 3 and 2 wickets each. Michael Neser didn’t come out to bat due to fitness issues.
