India has already secured a spot in the semifinals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They can avoid taking any more chances in their last group-stage matchup with New Zealand as a result. Mohammed Shami should be rested by India as a precaution, veteran England bowler Darren Gough said. Rather, he suggested that India add another spinner, given the slow and winding conditions of the Dubai surface.

In his fiery match against Bangladesh, Mohammed Shami got a fifer. However, he was different when it came to the match against Pakistan. Early in his tenure, Shami had an ankle injury and had to return to the dressing room to receive medical attention. Later, he came back, bowled eight overs, claimed no wickets, and conceded 43 runs.

He should get some relaxation, according to Darren Gough, so they don't run the danger of getting hurt in their next match. Shreyas Iyer also stated in the press conference following the IND vs. PAK match that Shami was doing well. Gough was wise to recommend that, considering the pitch circumstances, India deploy an additional spinner.

“They probably should rest him. They’ve got the confidence against Pakistan. When you’ve got a batting lineup like that, you can afford to bring someone else in; bring another spinner in Dubai,” Gough told Hindustan Times.

India can win the Champions Trophy

The pitch is not as flat in Dubai as it is in Lahore, according to Gough. Additionally, he said that there is no harm in Shami taking a break because Hardik Pandya is also bowling brilliantly. India is among the tournament favourites, he said, since they have a really good team and have performed quite well thus far.

Former England bowler Darren Gough has backed India to get to the final and win the prized trophy despite persistent worries. India has shown a level of domination worthy of winners, he said, praising the team's perfect balance and highlighting the batting order for its outstanding performances.
