Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill lead India’s honours on the third day
It was a great day with the bat for team India youngsters Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. The duo went on to score centuries for their team to help India post a huge target of 515 runs to win for Bangladesh. At the close of play, Bangladesh were 158/4 with Najmul Shanto batting with Shakib Al Hasan.
Rishabh Pant was the first batter to reach the three-figure mark. The 26-year-old was aggressive with the bat after starting the day in a sedate fashion. The youngster used his feet well and smashed the spinners for massive sixes.
After reaching his ton, Pant thanked his stars before falling for 109. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took a neat return catch to end Pant’s vigil at the wicket. Chennai rose to give the young sensation a huge applause as he walked off the park. It was the 6th test ton for Pant to move alongside MS Dhoni.
Shubman Gill played within himself and mixed caution and aggression. The right-handed batter played well against the spin bowlers. The celebrations from Gill were muted as he reached his century. His father could be seen celebrating and clapping once the 25-year-old reached his ton. Local hero R. Ashwin was the hero for India with the ball as he grabbed 3 wickets towards the end of day three.
