Rohit Sharma set Bangladeshi a steep target of 515 runs to win the first Test in Chennai. After Rishabh Pant reached his 6th test ton it was the turn of Shubman Gill to steal the show. The 25-year-old reached the mark with one run to square leg and was happy on reaching the mark.

Team India scored 287/4 from 64 overs with KL Rahul batting on 22 off 19 balls. The star of the day along with Pant was young Gill who was not out on 119 off 176 balls. His knock contained 19 sweetly timed fours with four huge sixes.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the best bowler for Bangladesh with figures of 2/103 from his 25 overs. Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana were the other successful bowlers picking one wicket each.

Bangladesh faces a huge challenge in Chennai

Team India continued their dominance at home with a terrific performance in Chennai. Rohit Sharma and his men not only batted well but also have done well with the ball. There was a huge cheer when fans saw Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj run into the ground after the declaration.

Najmul Shanto will rue his dropped chance of Pant just before lunch when the Indian star was in his 80s. Rishabh Pant decided to change gears after lunch as he hit Shakib Al Hasan for a six and a four to reach 94. The youngster reached his ton with two runs and looked up at the sky to thank the stars before falling for 109.

The entire Indian team stood up to applaud Pant as he made his way back to the pavilion. Focus shifted to Shubman Gill who was batting on 87 when the Indian wicketkeeper was dismissed.

India’s young batter races to 96 with two successive fours off Shakib Al Hasan. With a single against Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Gill reached his 5th Test ton after being dismissed for zero in the 1st innings.

There are more than two and a half days left to play in the Chennai Test. Rohit Sharma will hope his bowlers can do the trick once more and help his side win the game. The second Test of the series starts in Kanpur before the two sides play three T20I matches.
