Team India ended the third day of the Chennai Test still needing 6 wickets to win the game. R. Ashwin picked 3 Bangladeshi wickets to fall before bad light called an early end to the day. The most memorable wicket of the day was that of former Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque who even impressed Virat Kohli.

The incident happened in the final ball of the 30th over that the bowler bowled from round the wicket. R. Ashwin pitched the ball in the middle and offline as Haque played a forward defensive shot. All the Indian players went up in celebration as the ball hit the stumps to give India their third wicket.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli was seen nodding his head as even commentator Ravi Shastri noticed this. It was a huge moment for India as it ended the 38-run stand for the 3rd wicket between Mominul Haque and Najmul Shanto. The Chennai had gone wicketless in the first innings after bowling 13 overs.

Bangladesh batters come up with a strong reply

Having been set a target of 514 to win, Bangladesh didn’t hold back as they went on the offensive. Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam began well as the pair added 62 runs for the 1st wicket in 16.2 overs. The two batters made sure that they put the bad balls away. The best shot of the opening stand was played by Zakir Hasan who flicked Mohammed Siraj for a six.

Jasprit Bumrah gave India its first wicket when he had Zakir Hasan caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal. India’s opener went low to grab a smart catch to send Zakir Hasan for 33 off 47 balls with 5 fours and a six. The next man to fall was Shadman Islam who scored 35 off 68. The left-handed batter went back to a ball and tried to hit through the leg-side only for Shubman Gill to take a low catch.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto didn’t let the good work of his batters go to waste. The left-handed batter was on 51 off 60 balls with 4 boundaries and 3 sixes. Mushfiqur Rahim was the last man to fall for the day. Ashwin saw the former Bangladesh skipper hit the ball to KL Rahul who took a good diving catch. At stumps, Bangladesh were 158/4 still needing 356 runs with 6 wickets in hand.
