Indian wicketkeeper and batter Rishabh Pant played a memorable innings to score his sixth Test century in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. With two runs against Shakib Al Hasan, the Indian star reached the magical three figure mark. The century also meant that Pant has become the joint top century maker by Indian wicketkeeper.

The young batter joined MS Dhoni at the top of the list as the India and Chennai legend also has 6 Test tons. Fans who came to the ground to watch the Indian star bat weren’t left disappointed. It was a typical Rishabh Pant innings as he went after the Bangladeshi bowlers.

At one stage the 26-year-old was overtaken by Shubman Gill before Pant decided to let loose. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz put an end to the innings as he dismissed the Indian star caught and bowled for 109 off 128 balls.

Bangladeshi bowlers sent on leather hunt by Indian batters

At the end of the 2nd day, the Indian team had lost three key wickets. Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli were already back in the hut. It was up to the Gill and Pant combine to help India get a huge lead on the third day of the Chennai Test.

The two Indian batters began the day with caution, but once the mood was set the duo began to attack. The best shot of the day was when Rishabh Pant lap swept Hasan Mahmud for a huge six.

Shubman Gill reached his half-century with two sixes against Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The right-handed batter was cheered by the Indian fans as he signaled his return to form. Rohit Sharma will be looking for the batters to score quick runs in a bid to force an early end.

Bangladeshi bowlers were let down by some ordinary fielding on the third day. Bangladeshi skipper Najmul Shanto put down an easy chance just before lunch. This was also coupled with some fielding lapses and overthrows that the Indian team made full use of.

Team India needs to win both the series at home ahead of the huge tour of Australia. Win in all the five games at home will more or less confirm third successive appearance in World Test Championship finals next year.
