Chet Holmgren, a forward with the Oklahoma City Thunder, had a serious fall on the court near the basketball during Sunday night's game against the Golden State Warriors and had to leave. The team subsequently acknowledged that Holmgren had suffered a fracture of his right iliac wing, which he had incurred early in the first quarter. He must adhere to a return-to-play procedure, which may take eight to ten weeks.

At Oklahoma City's Paycom Center, the injury occurred less than six minutes into the game. Holmgren was on the baseline trying to block a layup from Andrew Wiggins, a forward for the Golden State Warriors. Having struck Wiggins, Holmgren landed hard on his right hip under the basket. Wiggins made the shot but did not receive a foul call, although Holmgren remained on the court clearly in agony.

While being assisted off the field and into the locker room, the 21-year-old rookie was obviously having trouble bearing weight on his right leg. Chet Holmgren had only grabbed four rebounds and no points at the time of the injury.

Despite Holmgren's early departure, the Thunder fought on but lost 127-116 against the Warriors. Stephen Curry of Golden State had a fantastic game, ending with seven assists and 36 points, including seven three-pointers. Due to the loss, Oklahoma City now shares the first position in the Western Conference with Golden State and Phoenix.

Chet Holmgren was picked in NBA Draft 2022

After being chosen as the Thunder's second overall choice in the 2022 NBA Draft, Holmgren missed his rookie campaign because of a foot injury he suffered in a pro-am game. Through the season's first nine games, Holmgren averaged 18.2 points and 9.2 rebounds, demonstrating his strong play. Despite having contributed significantly to Oklahoma City's successful start to the season, he will be out for a large amount of the year due to this most recent injury.

In addition to Holmgren's injury, the Thunder's $87 million free-agent signing, backup center Isaiah Hartenstein, has not yet played this season due to a broken hand he sustained during the preseason. The squad will need Hartenstein's comeback later this month to remain competitive in Holmgren's absence.
