RB Bulls Racing driver Yuki Tsunoda takes an indirect dig at his former teammate and current Red Bull driver Liam Lawson in one of the Drive to Survive season 7 episodes. The Japanese driver is one of the best in the mid-field and was also the quickest driver in his team. But since the 2021 season, he has been kept in the junior team with no promotion. The Red Bull team recruits drivers from their junior team, VCARB. The world champion Max Verstappen was once a junior driver for them.
Sergio Perez is the only driver who came from the outside without being a junior Red Bull driver. Tsunoda has been waiting for many years, but he has never been promoted. His teammate Liam Lawson, who just made his full-time debut last year, was promoted to the senior team after Sergio Perez's sacking.
The Red Bull management, headed by Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, gave a different reason for not promoting Yuki into the senior team. They said being a Red Bull driver is very difficult, and the drivers need to handle immense pressure. They feel Liam is more capable of handling such pressure than Yuki.
But the obvious reason, as many know, was Yuki Tsunoda’s link with Honda. The Japanese automanufacturer will next year part ways with Red Bull and join Aston Martin. Red Bull has no point keeping Yuki Tsuonda next year. Even Christian Horner said something about sacking Yuki Tsunoda after the 2025 season, as they can't keep a driver without promoting him for so long. This year, Yuki will partner with Isack Hadjar, who also has the same kind of anger issues as him.

This could also be Yuki’s final year with Red Bull, and from next year, he could be out of the team. But many believe Yuki Tsunoda is more talented than his teammates, and the Japanese man seems to agree with that. During one of the Drive to Survive season 7 episodes, Yuki Tsunoda was asked about who is the best driver in his team. The Japanese driver said, “I mean, results says everything, so I don't have to say anything.” Tsunoda is deeply hurt that he didn't get his chance at the Red Bull machine ahead of Liam Lawson.
