Before the start of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix for Formula 1, the Formula 2 feature race saw a horrifying crash that immediately led to a red flag. The incident occurred right as the lights went out, setting the stage for a chaotic start. The crash involved drivers Kush Maini, Oliver Goethe, and Josep Maria Marti, leaving fans and fellow racers in shock.

The initial cause of the accident was Maini’s car stalling on the starting grid. As the rest of the drivers accelerated at full speed, Maini’s car remained stationary—a dangerous situation in any race. Unfortunately, Goethe and Marti, who were behind Maini, couldn't react in time to avoid a collision. The sheer impact of the crash sent Marti's car flipping upside down, a terrifying sight for everyone watching.

Here is the video:

While the incident looked extremely dangerous, thankfully, all the drivers involved in the crash were reported to be unharmed. The immediate response from race marshals and the activation of the red flag ensured that the race was halted so medical teams could quickly assess the situation.

"Oh my god, that was bad," says Isack Hadjar

One of the most harrowing aspects of the crash was the reaction from Isack Hadjar, who saw the incident unfold from a close vantage point. Over the team radio, a shaken Hadjar exclaimed, "Oh my god, that was bad," capturing the gravity of the situation. His words resonated with the intense fear that comes with witnessing such a significant accident, especially when teammates are involved.

Despite the frightening visuals and the intensity of the crash, it was a massive relief that no injuries were reported. Marti, whose car endured the worst of the collision by flipping upside down, was quickly checked by medical personnel and found to be in good condition. The same went for Kush Maini and Goethe, who also escaped the crash without any serious harm.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is notorious for its challenging street circuit and high-speed nature, often leading to accidents in both Formula 1 and Formula 2. However, few crashes in recent memory have been as dramatic as this one, with Marti’s car flipping and Maini’s car being struck while stationary on the grid.
