Formula 2’s qualifying session in Baku saw a highly unusual and dramatic double crash involving two Campos Racing drivers and Red Bull Racing juniors, Isack Hadjar and Pepe Marti. In a bizarre turn of events, both drivers went off at the same point and time on the track, slamming into the same barriers in what appeared to be simultaneous brake failures.

The incident unfolded at Turn 1, where both Hadjar and Marti failed to slow down properly, careening straight into the wall. What made the scene even more striking was the timing – both crashes occurred almost in unison, causing immediate concern for their teams. As both drivers are juniors for Red Bull, the incident drew widespread attention, particularly as they are key figures in this season's Formula 2 Championship.

Here is the iconic video:

For Isack Hadjar, the crash had particularly costly consequences. Being the championship leader, Hadjar’s performance in Baku was critical, but this unexpected collision meant he couldn't finish higher than 15th place. However, his troubles didn’t stop there.

Isack Hadjar faces penalties!

Following the session, the stewards conducted a detailed review of the crash and determined that Isack Hadjar’s car was solely responsible for the red flag that interrupted the session. As a result, Hadjar was penalized under Article 33.5 of the FIA Formula 2 Sporting Regulations, which states that a driver causing a red flag can face penalties if it impacts the performance of others.

Hadjar’s fastest lap time was deleted, demoting him from P15 to P20, a massive blow to his championship aspirations. The crash and penalty not only hurt Hadjar’s standings but also shook up the competitive landscape of the F2 season. Fans and commentators were left stunned by the strange turn of events, with many wondering how this double crash will impact the next stages of the championship.
