‘Lewis moving to Ferrari will have huge consequences’ - Toto Wolff’s big claim

Mercedes F1 team's performance in the last few years is very ordinary just like a midfield team. But there was a golden time when Mercedes dominated the whole Formula 1 paddock. They were extraordinary in giving outstanding performances in races, brilliant strategies and winning championships. They won every driver's championship from 2014 to 2020 along with the 8 constructors title consecutively. Lewis Hamilton and Team Boss Toto Wolff played an integral part in Mercedes's huge success in Formula 1.

But this year Hamilton announced he would join Ferrari in 2025 which came as a huge shock for everyone. Nobody thought Lewis Hamilton would move to Ferrari as he was an integral part of the Silverstone team from 2013 and had been travelling with them for more than a decade. He was expected to retire at Mercedes.

'An icon is leaving'- Toto Wolff

Mercedes Boss Opens up about Lewis Hamilton's decision of leaving Mercedes for Ferrari. He says he wasn't surprised by the decision as Lewis Hamilton had the option of leaving the team. He said “We think we have found the right combinations for the future. With Lewis, an icon is leaving. As for the story of Ferrari next year, there will be a huge echo, everywhere. 

A decision with extraordinary consequences, Hamilton’s switch to red. We want to focus on the future and that’s why we have this Pairing." Toto Wolff also says he is happy with the replacement he made for Hamilton. Now Russell will be the leader of the team and he will guide Kimi Antonelli.

He believes both Russell and Antonnelli have great potential to win multiple championships in the future. Earlier this year there were rumours that Toto Wolff and Jos Verstappen had a conversation regarding Verstappen moving to Mercedes in 2026. But Toto Wolff announced Kimi Antonelli as Lewis Hamilton’s Successor.  

Lewis Hamilton also said in a recent interview that it was terrifying for him to tell his boss that he is moving to Ferrari replacing Carlos Sainz next year. Charles Leclerc will be Lewis Hamilton's new teammate in 2025. By signing Lewis Hamilton Ferrari made a great strategy for winning races and also financial investments for the team.
