Former Alpha Tauri manager Franz Tost selected 24-year-old Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen for his ideal squad out of all the drivers currently competing. The 69-year-old was asked to select one of his ideal teams from a variety of Formula 1 eras and one with current drivers. After 18 years as the team's leader, the old Alpha Tauri was renamed Visa Cash RB starting in the 2024 season.
From every era of Formula 1, Tost identified Michael Schumacher and Max Verstappen as his ideal team. By selecting the Dutch driver for both of his ideal teams, the Austrian made it obvious how much he admired Verstappen. Max Verstappen and Tost previously worked in the Red Bull camp. Following his triumph in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Piastri overtook teammate Lando Norris as the leader of the Drivers' title.
The Australian driver finished ahead of Verstappen by 2.8 seconds, demonstrating his pace and consistency this season. In his brief career, he has made 51 starts and won 10% of them. Particularly after the past two races, when he finished second in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and won in the Japanese Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has also found success with his RB21.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull are having tough time
After Lando Norris, he is ranked third in the Drivers' Championship. Additionally, the reigning world champion finished first in both of the earlier events. This year, he hopes to win the championship for the sixth time in a row by defending it. However, there are rumours regarding Max Verstappen’s future with the team. Helmut Marko, a Red Bull adviser, has also expressed "great concern" over the future of the reigning world champion.
Despite his contract being signed through 2028, Verstappen has the option to depart at the end of the current campaign thanks to exit clauses. Last year, the driver seemed to be on the verge of leaving the team because of the extreme instability and internal strife between the Dutchman's camp and Red Bull's leadership. Verstappen won his fourth consecutive Drivers' title with Red Bull after a difficult time.
