Norris was the biggest hope for McLaren, as many predicted him to set the fastest lap time. He was the fastest man in Q1 and Q2, but in the final qualifying session, he crashed his car within minutes. Even his rival Max Verstappen was shocked to see Lando crashing, and he even went to check on him.
This is the first time Lando Norris has missed out on the top 6 since the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The McLaren mechanics have a long night today, but they should at least finish inside the top 5 to have some advantage against Max. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are leading the F1 table with Max Verstappen in third.
The Jeddah track is very difficult to overtake, and the qualifying is all set for Max Verstappen to win the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix for the third time in his Formula 1 career. The crash was too much, as Lando's front tyres and suspension were completely broken.
McLaren’s hopes now lie on Oscar Piastri, who starts P2 ahead of George Russell and below Max Verstappen. The opening lap is the only time Russell and Piastri can attack Max, and if they miss that opportunity, it will be very difficult to catch Max and overtake him.
McLaren needs to bring a perfect strategy for Lando Norris, as he needs to undercut many people tomorrow. Norris is now out of contention tomorrow, and let us see whether Max Verstappen can clinch his third race in Jeddah.
