Reigning world champion Max Verstappen received a penalty for overtaking Oscar Piastri outside the track limits during the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix race in Jeddah. The Red Bull driver started from the pole position and finished in P2 due to the penalty he received.

On the opening lap, Oscar got a better start than Verstappen, so he launched himself into the first corner, which is tricky and narrow. Verstappen did a slingshot move and dived into the corner, but Piastri gave him no room.

The Dutch driver went outside the line, exceeded the track limits, and regained his P1 position. McLaren raised the issue with the stewards, and Max was given a 5-second time penalty. He kept his lead and went half of the laps, and while doing a pit stop, he served his penalty.

This put Oscar up into P1, and the australian driver won the Saudi Arabian GP race in Jeddah. If the time penalty had not been given to Max, he would have won the Jeddah race for the third time. The Red Bull driver was so angry on the team radio, but he didn't express much as speaking against the FIA will bring him more penalties and hefty fines.

After the race, Verstappen was standing on the grid line for the post-match presentation, and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem approached Max Verstappen and had a little chat. Verstappen, who was angry at the time, had some heated exchanges with MBS.

Max was quite animated and said some words to Ben Sulayem and the FIA president, then moved away from the Red Bull driver. Even during the post-race press conference, Verstappen didn't wish to talk about the penalty as he said expressing himself would be interpreted in the wrong way, which would bring him more trouble.

He denied to talk anything about the race and said he would see them in the next race in Miami. This is not the first time Verstappen has taken a stance against Formula 1 and the FIA. In 2024, he was penalised for swearing over team radio, as he protested by not speaking proper answers in F1 interviews. Let us see what he does this time.
