Overview
- John Cena and CM Punk had a legendary match with each other at the Money in the Bank in 2011
- They are unlikely to face each other in Cena's final year at the MITB 2025
- While Cena is having a story with R Truth, Punk is against Paul Heyman, Seth Rollins, and Bron Breakker
John Cena and CM Punk are unlikely to face each other in a match at the WWE Money in the Bank 2025. While many are expecting them to face each other in a PLE in which they had a legendary match in 2011, it is unlikely to happen. Reportedly, their match is likely to take place in the latter half of 2025 due to a key reason.
The main reason behind their feud not taking place in the upcoming PLE is the story they are currently having. While John Cena is involved in a story with R Truth and Randy Orton, Punk is busy dealing with his former friend, Paul Heyman, and adversary, Seth Rollins, along with Bron Breakker, in the last few weeks.

Punk felt betrayed by the Wiseman at WrestleMania 41 when he hit him with a steel chair and delivered a low blow. Since then, Punk has been behind Heyman and Rollins due to obvious reasons. He will be teaming up with Sami Zayn against Seth and Breakker on Saturday Night's Main Event.
How are John Cena and CM Punk placed in the current WWE story?
Cena is scheduled to show up during the MITB, on Raw after the MITB, and on SmackDown after the MITB. He is highly likely to defend his title against someone, or is at least likely to have a promo or a segment in the PLE.

One must not be surprised if he surprisingly inserts himself into the Ladder match and costs every wrestler on the roster a spot to earn the contract. Such a scenario could make things interesting and lead to a potential feud with Jey Uso or another World Heavyweight Champion holding the title shortly.
As per the reports, Cena vs Punk match is scheduled for a major PLE in the second half of the year. Their match could take place at the SummerSlam or the Survivor Series. Money in the Bank would have been the perfect PLE for their match. However, their stories are far too apart to coincide in the upcoming PLE.
