Rey Mysterio showed up on WWE Smackdown and confirmed his name for the Men's Royal Rumble 2025 match. The WWE Hall of Famer was confronted by Kevin Owens who wanted Rey to choose him as his WrestleMania 41 opponent. As Rey said he was not the world champion, KO went mad and tried to attack the Luchador.
The night in San Diego was started by the hometown hero Rey. Fans gave Mysterio a thunderous reception and he felt great to be back home. He spoke about the Men's Royal Rumble match and registered his name for the same. Rey claimed it was not easy for him to win given the presence of the star wrestlers.

He took the names of Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and John Cena, and claimed them to be great competitors. However, Rey reminded the fans of his Royal Rumble 2006 win after starting the match in the second position. He claimed to have won it for Eddie Guerrero.
Kevin Owens wishes to face Rey Mysterio in a singles match
That was when the music of KO hit and the fans booed the star wrestler. Kevin wanted to make sure that he had no intention of interrupting Mysterio. He claimed the Luchador to be the wrestler whom he respected the most. Owens wanted a favor from the former world champion.
Kevin wanted Rey to choose him as his WrestleMania opponent if he were to win the Men's Rumble match. Owens claimed Rey to be his dream opponent and said his career would be complete after competing in a match with him. Mysterio was glad by it but wanted to confirm a fact with KO.
The star wrestler said to KO to his face that he was not the world champion. Owens got angry and tried to attack Rey. But the former world champion was ready and went for a 619 before the former moved out. Backstage on the blue brand, Nick Aldis confirmed a one-on-one match between Kevin and Rey later in the night.
