Oba Femi became the new NXT Champion by overcoming Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe on WWE NXT New Years Evil. The mighty wrestler singlehandedly took on Trick and Eddy and operated on a different level altogether. It will be a new era of NXT with Oba and Giulia as the NXT Men's and Women's Champions respectively.
Oba won the Iron Survivor Match at NXT Deadline and earned a shot at Trick Williams for the world title. Eddy inserted himself into the match by faking an injury with Ava. Hence, the main event of NXT New Years Evil was scheduled between Oba, Trick, and Eddy. However, the return of The Rock ensured it happened just before the segment.

Before the match could start, Thorpe was attacked by an undisclosed person. Ava claimed that she knew know was behind his attack and still asked Thorpe to show up in the match. For the first few minutes of the match, only Trick and Oba wrestled in the arena and Eddy was nowhere to be found.
Oba Femi pins Trick Williams to become NXT Champion
The match virtually became a one-on-one bout between Trick and Oba for the first half. Williams had the upper hand in the first few minutes. However, Femi came back strong and dominated Williams. At one stage, he had a good chance of claiming a win after delivering a powerbomb.
As the referee counted two and was about to count the third, Eddy pulled him to save the match. The referee had an argument with Thorpe who got a steel chair to smash the duo. However, Oba took care of him while Trick was recovering from the blow.
Williams tried to deliver Trick shot from one end and Eddy tried to hit Oba with the steel chair from the other end. Oba cleverly manipulated the duo and ensured both of them suffered in the process. He later delivered a Power Bomb and pinned Trick to claim the win. He became the NXT Champion for the first time in his career.
