One more encounter was required to secure the King of the Ring finals at WWE's next premium live event, and it was the main event of tonight's SmackDown. With Gunther having secured a berth in the King of the Ring finals, Randy Orton and Tama Tonga would compete to be his opponent, and Gunther was present to witness who that opponent would be.

Tonga was unrelenting from the outset, but Randy Orton hung in there and weathered the initial barrage. Unfortunately, he damaged his knee during the game, which Tonga took advantage of. Orton's situation became even more challenging, but he managed to land the RKO, win, and advance to tomorrow's King & Queen of the Ring finals despite the agony.

From the opening bell, Tama Tonga showed aggression by cornering Orton and landing many punches and headbutts. After launching a fallaway slam to get back on course, Orton blasted Tonga into the ring post twice more. Orton responded with uppercuts, and The Viper was now well in charge of the fight.

Tonga had rallied after the commercial break, but his attempt at a splash from the top rope had not gone as planned. Orton attempted to capitalize on it, but his knee favoritism made it difficult for him to execute a DDT. Tonga was able to go for the injured leg and break it up, and he then stopped Orton's momentum with a sleeper hold.

Sikoa knocked Randy Orton him to the ground

Orton shook Tonga before being smacked in the back of the knee, allowing Tonga to re-lock the sleeper position. Gunther was shown in the audience as Sikoa stood to the ringside, and Orton hit a massive smash on Tonga, giving him a chance to breathe. Orton was holding his left knee and not putting weight on it. That didn't stop him from landing back-to-back clotheslines and a power slam, prompting Orton to try for a DDT once again.

Orton attacked Sikoa, knocking him to the ground, and then hit Tonga with an RKO. Orton went for the cover and won, advancing to the finals versus Gunther. When Sikoa's music started, he stormed into the ring to attack Orton following the fight. Kevin Owens then entered the ring to face Sikoa. Owens attempted a Stunner, but Sikoa left the ring before it could be executed.
