Hady Habib scripted history against Yunchaokete Bu in the first round of the Australian Open 2025. The World No. 219 beat the Chinese 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) and became the first Lebanese to win a Grand Slam match. He was proud of himself and waved the Lebanese flag in Court 13 as the fans gave a standing ovation.

Hady had a tough challenge from the Chinese. Though the match seems one-sided as Habib won all three sets, the games in all sets were close. Only in the second set was Hady able to claim a relatively comfortable win. The first and third sets went to the tiebreaker, where it seemed like anyone could clinch it.

Credits to Habib for managing to hold nerves to bag the sets in his pocket. The crowd was literally behind the emerging player as they cheered each of his points. The win of the 26-year-old means a lot for himself and the people of his country, considering the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

'Having a rough time with the war' - Hady Habib after his first round win in the Australian Open 2025

Habib spoke after his match and claimed it to be an incredible feeling to claim a win in a big tournament like the Australian Open. The Lebanese star claimed it means a lot for himself and the sport in his country. He felt it was more special to win the match in front of his fans.

"It's such an incredible feeling to get this win not only for myself but for Lebanon and Lebanese tennis. The crowd was absolutely wild. It made it even more special to win in front of them," said Habib. Hady spoke to bring positivity in the country with his game. He addressed the difficulties Lebanon has been going through.

Hady felt grateful as he was able to bring smiles in the faces of his countrymen with his game in the difficult times. "I think to bring something positive. We've been having a rough time with, obviously, the war. We had our other issues in the past," Habib added.
