Nagal exits in the first round

Sumit started the game with aggressive serves but was completely dominated by the Czech player. At one point Machac was easily countering the Indian’s serve with ease and added more points. Sumit was left clueless and didn't have any plans against the Czech player.

But the third set was a do-or-die set for Sumit and he did something better than his previous two sets. He showed some fight and went to 5 game points. He also broke Machac’s serve a couple of times but the Czech held his nerve and won the third set 5-7 ending Nagal's Australian Open run in the first round.

The hope of seeing Sumit Nagal again in Melbourne is impossible. But there are other player Indian players to watch out for. One is Nishesh Basavareddy an Indian-origin player who competes for the USA and will play against the Tennis 'GOAT' Novak Djokovic on January 12. Novak Djokovic aims for his 11th Australian Open and 25th Overall Grand Slam title. He will make history by becoming the highest grand slam winner at both Australian and ATP tennis if he wins this year's AO Grand Slam title.

The other player is Rithvik Bollipalli in the doubles category partnering with USA’s Ryan Seggerman. N.Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri will also play the Doubles game with different pairs. The biggest Indian name to participate in the tournament will be Rohan Bopanna the reigning Australian Open men’s doubles champion along with Matthew Ebden.

Bopanna became the oldest ever World No. 1 in Men’s doubles after he defeated Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the finals. It was the Indian’s first major Doubles Grand Slam title in his career. This year he will play hard to retain his championship and make India proud again.
