Tennis star Casper Ruud has shared kind words with world number two Iga Swiatek after the Polish star crashed out of the ongoing Mutua Madrid Open 2025. The five-time Grand Slam winner has suffered defeat against Coco Gauff in the semi-finals of the first WTA Clay Court 1000 event. She is yet to win the tournament this year.
Iga Swiatek was seen breaking down after her loss in the semi-finals. She was spotted with a white cloth covering her face. After watching the world number two breakdown during her semi-final clash, Casper Ruud took to social media and shared an encouraging message to support her.
Notably, the star player is yet to mark a win here. She was the defending champion here after beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final clash in 2024. She later wins the French Open 2024 as well. However, her early exit might have dented her Roland Garros preparations.
Iga Swiatek opens up on her crushing Madrid Open defeat!
She spoke about her performance against Coco Gauff in the semi-final match. The world number two admitted that she failed to get her level up. She further showcased sportsmanship after hailing the American star, who registered a magnificent 6-1, 6-1 win in this clash. The 23-year-old tennis star will be gearing up to defend her French Open title in Paris.
βI couldn't really get my level up. Coco played well, but, yeah, I think it's, you know, on me that I didn't really move well; I wasn't ready to play back the shots with heaviness, and, yeah, with that kind of game, like, yeah, it was pretty bad. For sure, I feel like I haven't been moving well and you know, the tennis also was like on and off, you know, for most of the tournament. So I wasn't really sure what I had in my toolbox, you know, but yeah, for sure, like I didn't even have a plan B because nothing was working today," Iga Swiatek said.
