The ongoing Mutua Madrid Open 2025 suffered harsh consequences from the sudden power outage, with top players like Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek waiting to take centre stage for the pre-quarterfinals. However, this blackout in the nation has resulted in the crowd storming out of the venue with no light.

On the 28th of April, Spain, Portugal, and some parts of France experienced unexpected and shocking power outages. This incident has affected both ATP and WTA matches of the Mutua Madrid Open 2025. The matches were already underway at the Caja Mágica, but all of a sudden, a power outage took place, with all electronic systems failing.

Chaos at the Madrid Open with a complete power loss!

Only Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva's game of the pre-quarters was completed, while matches with the likes of Sabalenka and Swiatek, Grigor Dimitrov, Jacob Fearley, and Matteo Arnaldi were forced to stop. Thereafter, the fans at the stadium started rushing out.

However, they all left scrambling in the dark, with a plethora of them using their phone lights to get out of the venue safely. In addition, the staff members were also seen assisting the fans, helping them out of the darkness. Apart from this tournament, the nation has seen airports and train stations affected.

Meanwhile, the Madrid Open's official social media team has released a statement about the situation and stated that they will be assisting fans with the resumption of play. The fans were frustrated with the situation but thanked the tournament team members for assisting them in such a daunting situation.

"The #MMOPEN has been affected by the general power outage; we are working to restore normality as soon as possible. We will keep you informed through our social media channels," the statement, released at 1:57 PM local time, read.
