Emma Raducanu achieved a significant milestone in her career by securing her first victory over a top 10 player, defeating world No. 5 Jessica Pegula. This triumph, which Raducanu described as "one of my most meaningful wins," came after a dramatic and gruelling match.

The 21-year-old British tennis sensation showcased remarkable resilience, saving a match point in the second setโ€”a first in her career. Raducanu ultimately clinched the victory with a scoreline of 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, serving the match from 0-40 down in a thrilling conclusion.

Here is her celebration video:

However, the victory was so meaningful for Emma as she was overjoyed. Overcome with emotion, she dropped her racquet and pulled her hat over her eyes, visibly moved by the enormity of her achievement.

โ€œI'm very proud of myselfโ€, says Emma Raducanu

Reflecting on her performance, Raducanu expressed immense pride in her perseverance. "I'm very proud of myself for sticking through," she said. "I was pretty much down the entire match." Her determination was evident as she navigated challenging moments in both the first and second sets, ultimately turning the match in her favour. "I fought through some tough situations," she continued.

This victory is particularly poignant given Raducanu's struggles over the past year. She underwent three surgeries and missed the entire grass-court season, making her return to top-level competition all the more impressive. Opting out of qualifying for the French Open and the Paris Olympics, she instead focused on preparing for Wimbledon, where she received a wildcard entry.

Despite leading 5-2 in the third set, Raducanu faced a fierce comeback from Jessica Pegula, who had recently won the Berlin grass-court tournament. Pegula managed to break Raducanu twice to level the match, but Raducanu's tenacity prevailed as she secured a crucial break of her own to edge ahead. She then survived several break points to seal the win finally.

This hard-fought victory not only marks a significant milestone in Raducanu's career but also sets up an exciting quarter-final clash against Russian world No. 14 Daria Kasatkina. Raducanu's journey of resilience and determination continues to inspire, and her latest triumph is a testament to her unwavering spirit and talent.
