Tennis star Diego Dedura-Palomera has made history after his stellar first-round victory at the BMW Open, as he has recently routed the likes of Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Joao Fonseca. The 17-year-old star player initially assumed that his campaign at the ATP 500 tournament was over after he suffered a first-round defeat against Alexander Bublik in qualifiers.
However, legendary player Gael Monfils' withdrawal at the last moment allowed him to earn a lucky loser spot in the main draw as he faced formidable ATP player Denis Shapovalov in the first round of the game.
The 17-year-old tennis star wins the opening set after smacking breathtaking shots, forcing it into the tiebreaker of the game. The young sensation then raced into a 3-0 lead with his opponent struggling with injury. This allows him to storm into the second round of the marquee event.
His first-round win has sparked a wild celebration from the 17-year-old player. He became the first player born in 2008 to win a top-level ATP match and joined Sinner, Alcaraz, and Fonseca on the list of the first players born each year to win an ATP game.

Diego Dedura-Palomera reflected on his magnificent win
“I just can’t put it in words right now. I’m just so happy. I was struggling all these years and now I just got the wild card for qualifying. I won against Top 100 Mackenzie McDonald [on Saturday], then lost against [Alexander] Bublik [on Sunday]. I had bad luck because there were three lucky losers who got in, and I was the fourth one. With the crowd and everything, what will happen around you? Then I was just focused all the time and tried to hold my serve in the first set,” said Dedura-Palomero.
