Carlos Alcaraz has had an unpredictable 2024 season till now. While he celebrated triumphant victories at Indian Wells and the French Open, he faced disappointments, including early exits in the Australian Open, Madrid Open, and Miami Open.

His recent performance at the Queen’s Club Championships, where he was eliminated in the Round of 32, highlighted the rollercoaster nature of his season. Nevertheless, the three-time Grand Slam winner remains optimistic about his prospects at Wimbledon 2024.

Meanwhile, in a candid conversation over tea with former British-Australian tennis player Johanna Konta, Alcaraz shared his thoughts on Wimbledon and British culture. The interview, humorously titled "Down the Tea," saw Alcaraz, a confessed coffee lover, candidly choose coffee over tea, revealing his preference for cappuccinos or coffee lattes.

Despite being offered traditional British snacks, Alcaraz admitted to steering clear of dipping biscuits into his drink, a habit he attributes to his diet-conscious approach. The discussion took a delightful turn when Konta asked Alcaraz about his Wimbledon membership card.

Here is the video:

To her surprise, Alcaraz confessed he had not yet used it. Konta's playful yet stern response, “Oh! That’s criminal,” was followed by earnest advice. She urged Alcaraz to take advantage of his membership, particularly recommending the scones with freshly made strawberry jam, a Wimbledon staple. Konta’s enthusiasm for these treats highlighted the charm of Wimbledon’s traditional offerings.

Carlos Alcaraz opens up about his aggressive approach

Alcaraz also reflected on his playing style, acknowledging the potential downsides of his aggressive approach, especially on grass courts. His defeat to Britain’s Jack Draper at Queen’s, where his frequent net approaches were effectively countered, served as a learning experience.

Despite this, Alcaraz remains committed to his fearless style, which brought him success at Wimbledon 2023. He believes his aggressive net play, while risky, is central to his game and intends to continue leveraging it.

The conversation touched upon Alcaraz’s mental game, especially in best-of-five matches, where he believes he has an edge. His strategic adaptability and mental toughness are crucial in Grand Slam scenarios.

Alcaraz also noted the uncertainties surrounding his potential opponents, such as Novak Djokovic’s return from injury and Jannik Sinner’s inconsistent form on grass, despite the latter’s recent win at the Halle Open.
