The tennis world is gearing up for the final Grand Slam event of the year. The Majors started with the Australian Open in Melbourne on January 15 and will conclude with the US Open final on September 8. The hard-court tournament will kick off on August 26 and will feature many prominent stars.

Meanwhile, the list of wildcards for singles (both men and women) has been released. A total of 14 singles wildcards were offered for the US Open. Former champions Stan Wawrinka, Dominic Thiem, Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu are among the wild card recipients for the upcoming event, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) confirmed on Thursday (August 15).

Notably, Theim received a wildcard as a special gesture considering that the Australian will bid farewell to the game after the 2024 season. The 2020 US Open winner also featured in two finals at the French Open. It will be a great achievement for Theim if he can end his Grand Slam campaign on a high note.

The other six men to receive wild cards are Americans Christopher Eubanks, Zachary Svajda, Learner Tien and Matthew Forbes, plus France's Alexandre Muller and Australia's Tristan Schoolkate.

Naomi Osaka set to feature for the first time since 2022

In the women's singles section, a total of eight players were handed wildcards. Two-time champion Noami Osaka is set to play the US Open for the first time since 2022. She returned to action in January after a maternity break.

The Japanese star, who reached the second round of the Canadian Open earlier this month, lost in the qualifying round of Cincinnati on Monday (August 12). The four-time Grand Slam champion revealed that she still does not feel like herself on the court following a long break.
