There have been a lot of great players we have been looking forward to but the player we expected to give us one of the best performances this season was Elena Rybakina. The Kazakhstani was once one of the best players to ever play the game and was also one of the top ranked players in the WTA scene and is currently the World number 4.

The US Open 2024 was a tournament we all were looking forward to seeing the best of Elena Rybakina who was looking to make a comeback after Wimbledon. Unfortunately this did not go on to happen since she eventually withdrew from the Grand Slam event breaking everyone's hearts. This was supposed to be the moment where we see her amongst her biggest rivals in the game after a long and see her at her best, but everyone was left heartbroken to see her withdraw in the final Grand Slam of the season.

The injuries are never ending this season

It is all clear that the reason behind Elena Rybakina's withdrawal from the tournament is her injury and fitness concerns. However, US Open is not the only season where we saw this story unfold as we eventually saw this in multiple tournaments especially this season which we will be diving into going forward and what has been the biggest issue.

The great start to the season: Before we talk about how it all went bad let us talk about how it started. The first few tournaments for Rybakina were actually great where she had won two titles in Abu Dhabi and Brisbane and consistently made the playoffs in some WTA tournaments as well. Though the Australian Open was not really a tournament to remember for her, it was still a great start to her campaign which surprises us on how it ended.

Where the season fell apart: After Abu Dhabi Rybakina had made it to the finals in Qatar but from there it all went downhill.  It all started from Dubai where she had to withdraw from her quarter final match due to Gastrointestinal illness which also was the reason behind her withdrawal from the Indian Wells as well. Though there were a few successful stints like Stuttgart, it was safe to say that the majority of the tournaments saw her out of the game for a long time. In conclusion this has turned out to be one of the most disappointing seasons for the World number 4.
