The young sensation Carlos Alcaraz continues with his purple patch. Playing in his first Olympics, the Spaniard needs to clear just one more hurdle to add another feather to his cap in the short span of his career. He is set to take on tennis icon Novak Djokovic for yet another time in the all-important final of a marquee event.

The four-time Grand Slam champion has been dominant so far at the Paris Olympics tennis event, beating all his opponents in straight sets. In his semi-final bout, Alcaraz defeated Canada’s Felix Augur Aliassime 6-1, 6-1 to set a blockbuster clash against one of the greatest of all-time players.

Djokovic too had a brilliant campaign so far in the French capital. He was able to defeat his arch-rival and two-time Olympic gold medalist Rafael Nadal earlier in the second round. The Serbian advanced to the men's singles final for the first time in five attempts with a 6-4, 6-2 win over 11th seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy.

I am going to give them what they want: Alcaraz's message to Spaniards

The superstars of the two generations have faced each other six times and have shared three wins each. However, the 21-year-old will be more confident as he overcame the 37-year-old a few weeks ago to claim his fourth major title at the Wimbledon Championships. This was pretty evident in his statements ahead of the final.

When the former Spanish tennis star Alex Corretja asked about his message to fans in his country, Alcaraz said: “To the Spaniards who watch me on TV, tell them I am going to put on a show in the final and that I am going to give them what they want: the gold (smiles)”.

The final will take place at the Roland Garros Stadium on Sunday. In what could be his last dance at the biggest global gala, Djokovic is aiming for his maiden gold. The 24-time Grand Slam winner can also join an elusive list of Golden Slam winners (player who won all four Grand Slam titles at least once along with an Olympic gold medal).
