Carlos Alcaraz has hinted he is in the running for a place on the list of greats after defeating legend Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2024 final to claim his fourth Grand Slam title. A year ago, the young man from Spain stunned the Serbian at the same venue in a five-set thriller. He now successfully defended his title with an emphatic display on the Centre Court on Sunday (July 14).
Only very few players can match Djokovic’s aggression and Alcaraz has proved that he is one of them. Djokovic had a great chance to get revenge, but the 24-time Grand Slam champion was once again outclassed by the 21-year-old with a dominant display throughout. Alcaraz won his second Wimbledon title with a straight sets victory 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).

The first two sets were one-sided, with Djokovic unable to get going. Alcaraz closed out the first set 6-2 after a 41-minute battle. The Spaniard carried his form into the second set as well. He took a 5-2 lead with a double break and went on to win the second set 6-2.
However, the veteran gave a tough fight to the youngster in the third set. He had to save 4 break points before he somehow survived. But Alcaraz bounced back in the 9th game. He was 0-40 up and managed to clinch the final point of the game, denying Djokovic a chance to make a comeback. The game entered the tie-break and Alcaraz remained calm to bag the set.

Alcaraz has now won all his Grand Slam finals (4-0). It all started with the US Open 2022 win and then won the Wimbledon last year against Djokovic. Earlier this year, he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final of the French Open 2024. On the other hand, Djokovic missed out on matching Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles. Had he won the game, the 37-year-old would have become the first player on the planet to win 25 Grand Slams.
