French Open director Amélie Mauresmo has dropped big hints of legendary player Roger Federer's presence at Rafael Nadal's French Open tribute ceremony in Paris. The second Grand Slam of the year is slated to take place on May 25th, and an event will take place after Day 1.
Notably, Rafael Nadal has won the French Open 14 times in his career. In this forthcoming edition, the organisers and directors have decided to honour him for his stellar performance in Paris, which allowed him to take this game to the epitome of the level.
Roger Federer, who has been an arch-rival of Nadal as well as one of his close friends off the court, is set to mark his appearance in his tribute ceremony. In a recent interview, when Mauresmo was asked to talk about Federer's presence, she stated that the fans would find out on the 25th itself.
"We've been on this for several months. Obviously, I know what we are going to see. I especially want him to have tears and get chills so that he feels emotions and the love. He gave us a lot and we want to give him back too," she said. (translated from French).
Rafael Nadal opens up on his French Open tribute ceremony
As the French Open 2025 is around the corner, Nadal believes that he generally does not like tributes and all. The 14-time French Open winner stated that he does not like being the centre of attention. Nadal stated that he likes to be at the centre of attention after performing his best in tennis, but this tribute gives him a big headache.
"It makes me uncomfortable because I'm not very good at this kind of thing. I don't really like tributes. I'm not a person who needs that sort of thing. I really don't. I'm not someone with a big ego. I live well with a bit of anonymity, a bit of tranquillity. But I understand this moment at Roland-Garros because it's a story we've lived together. But as I said, I don't feel very comfortable at the centre of attention. When I played tennis, yes, but apart from that, the tributes give me a bit of a headache," Rafael Nadal said.
