He was the top player in the world during this period last year, and this year, he has elevated his game even further. Right now, the 23-year-old Italian boasts an astonishing record, losing only one out of his last 31 singles matches.

Another important victory for him was at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, where he humbled Sebastian Baez, crucially saving Italy from elimination in the quarter-finals. Following this impressive win, he was also chosen to be in the doubles match alongside Matteo Berrettini.

Italy's dynamic duo rose to the occasion.

The Italian team showed resilience as they adjusted to the match, facing a break point early in the second game of the opening set. Once they successfully saved that crucial point, their confidence began to build. Sinner and Berrettini had two opportunities to break serve in the third game; however, the experienced Argentinian doubles undefended against both.

The opening set appeared to have a tie-break in the corner, but the Italians elevated their game, displaying remarkable focus and determination. After trailing 3-4, they rallied impressively, winning 12 consecutive points. They first held serve to love, then executed a break to love, followed by another commanding hold to love, ultimately securing the first set 6-4.

The second set of the match showcased a classic doubles dynamic, particularly on the incredibly fast hard court in Malaga. Both teams demonstrated strong serves, leading the set to a likely tie-break scenario.

In the upcoming semi-finals, they will face Australia, one of the two most successful teams in Davis Cup history. Following their victory, both Sinner and Berrettini expressed their joy, especially with Berrettini excited to return to the court this year after missing last year's event.

"It’s so special. Last year I was so happy to be here but it’s a different feeling when you can step on the court and enjoy playing with the best players in the world. It’s a big honour to be part of the team." Berrettini said.
