The Roland Garros games have been the trending topics of the season. The tournament though has given us some great matches down the line, but there have still been some concerns regarding the length of the matches. There have been some games that were suspended due to rain which led to some matches finishing at unearthly hours in the tournament. This has almost been a recurring theme of the tournament.
One of the matches that had taken this route was between Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti. This in no way was a one-sided game which had gone up to 5 sets and was one of the most intense games in the tournament. The match went on for more than 4 hours which eventually finished at 3 AM. This is the match that has led to a lot of debate in the season as well.
Gauf and Swiatek show their concerns
One of the players who have had a problem with these late-night matches was none other than Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek who did not like the decision from the organizers to extend the match to unearthly hours. American number Gauff clearly showed her concerns saying " I feel like a lot of times people think you’re done, but really at 3 a.m. [you’re] probably not going to bed until 5 a.m. at the earliest, maybe 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. It’s definitely not healthy."
The statement by Gauff was something to think about and she was not the only one who had problems with this decision as world number 1 Iga Swiatek also supported her stating " It’s not easy to play and it’s not like we’re going to fall asleep one hour after the match." Hearing the concerns of both these established players is something to look into as this could affect the athlete a lot who is already playing one of the toughest Grand Slam tournaments in the world. There is no doubt that these issues should be looked into going into the future as well.
