Alcaraz Eyes Redemption Against Tommy Paul Photograph: (X)
Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has opened up about his next game against Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals of the French Open 2025. The defending champion stated that he will not make the mistakes that he did in his quarter-final clash against Ben Shelton in the last 16.
The star player is now set to face the American star in the next clash. Notably, Paul has been one of the toughest opponents for the four-time Grand Slam winner. The two last met in the Wimbledon quarter-finals, where Alcaraz defeated Paul in a tense four-set battle. Thereafter, the duo once again met in the Paris Olympics, where the Spaniard defeated the American in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz has discussed his rivalry with Paul, confessing that the American star has caused him problems on many occasions at major events. The star player has lauded Paul's improvement and asserted that the American star is now full of confidence.
The four-time Grand Slam winner has recalled his rivalry with the American star and how he has posed a big threat to him on the ATP tour. Alcaraz further said that he would be aware of the mistakes he had made during his fourth-round clash against Ben Shelton and would be careful not to repeat them in their next game.
"I remember every match I played against him was really tough. It was really difficult. In Grand Slams. In Masters 1000s. All the tournaments I’ve played him in, it wasn’t easy at all. I lost a few matches against him as well. He’s in the quarterfinal of another grand slam. His level is really high right now. He has a lot of confidence. It’s gonna be an interesting match. I’ll try to learn from the mistakes I made today. Not gonna make the same against Tommy. But I think for the people it’s gonna be a really interesting match to watch," said Alcaraz during his press conference.
